Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to explore and identify macroscopic wood fungi in Taekas Forest and analyze their potential as contextual learning resources in science education. The research was conducted from October to November 2022 in Taekas Forest, Taekas Village, Miomaffo Timur District, Timor Tengah Utara Regency. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, documentation, and interviews. Observations were conducted along transects focusing on macroscopic wood fungi growing on dead trees, living trees, and dead wood branches. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, and the data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results showed seven species of macroscopic wood fungi belonging to three families: Ganodermataceae, Polyporaceae, and Auriculariaceae, with a total of 184 individuals. Ganodermataceae was the most abundant family. The identified species were Ganoderma applanatum, Ganoderma lucidum, Ganoderma sp1, Ganoderma sp2, Microporus xanthopus, Earliella scabrosa, and Auricularia auricula. The findings have potential as contextual learning resources because they provide real objects for learning about biodiversity, classification, morphological characteristics, habitats, the role of organisms in ecosystems, and the utilization of biological resources by local communities. Therefore, the diversity of macroscopic wood fungi in Taekas Forest can be utilized as an information source and contextual object in science learning.
