Abstract

This research examines the legal protection of Nunkolo ikat weaving works in Hoineno Village,
Nunkolo District, South Central Timor Regency, based on Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning
Copyright. Ikat weaving is a traditional cultural work with distinctive motifs and economic
value. The main issue addressed in this study is the form of legal protection provided to ikat
weavers in Hoineno Village. This research employs a qualitative method, with data collected
through interviews with local weavers. The findings indicate that the weavers lack knowledge
regarding copyright and legal protection for their weaving creations and have not registered
their works. This situation creates the risk of external parties claiming Nunkolo ikat motifs as
their own. Therefore, government-led socialization and increased public awareness of copyright
protection are necessary to ensure adequate legal protection for ikat weaving works.
